Edfred L. Shannon,
Jr.
Edfred L. Shannon, Jr. is the retired Chairman
of the Board of Santa Fe International Corp., a contract offshore
and onshore drilling contractor now merged with Global Marine
Corp. and listed on the NYSE as Global-Santa Fe, headquartered
in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Shannon graduated from the University
of California, Berkeley, with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering.
He was Chief Executive Officer of Santa Fe from 1962 until
his retirement in June 1991. In 1981 Mr. Shannon negotiated
a friendly cash merger with Kuwait Petroleum Corp., an agency
of the government of Kuwait for over 2-1/2 billion dollars.
Santa Fe consequently became a wholly owned subsidiary of
Kuwait Petroleum, a government company.
In 1997 K.P.C. did an I.P.O. of approximately
45% of the companies’ shares and listed the shares once
again on the N.Y.S.E.
Mr. Shannon is 76 years old and is a director
of the Trust Company of the West and various other charitable
foundations and institutions in the Los Angeles area.
